Our own next important event is our annual Christmas Party, which this year will be on Sunday, December 2, 2007 (see write up). I will prepare a booklet with names and addresses of Auxiliary Members to distribute at the Christmas Party and at the January 6, 2008 Meeting. Please let me know by November 25, 2007 of any changes to your information.
Please also mark your calendars for our annual Children’s Christmas Party (Dec 15, 2007 from 11am to 1pm)

GERMANIA MÄNNERCHOR NEWS

John Kneller (614/898-9022)
A good time was had by all as we joined the Apollo Singers and the Youngstown Gemischter Chor in Youngstown on September 22, 2007 for an evening of song and merriment. The Youngstown folks served up a delicious roast pork dinner, and then combined choruses of Apollo and Youngstown performed, followed by the Germania Männerchor and Damenchor. The evening was complete with dancing.
The problem with our Männerchor vests appears to be solved, now that the company who embroidered the emblems (and effectively ruined the vests) has replaced them at their cost.. We are now in the process of cutting the emblems out of the old vests and applying them to the new vests. Our thanks go to Thea Klabunde for her help and guidance in this matter.
Both the Männerchor and Damenchor are rehearsing appropriate songs for the Christmas season. We hope to schedule a performance at the Josephenum and perhaps one at a local assisted living facility. We should have a more definite schedule after our October 16 Music Committee meeting.
The ranks of the Männerchor are now rather thin. We need more voices. If you know of someone who you think may be interested in singing our music, bring him down to rehearsal some Thursday evening. The Männerchor’s part of the rehearsal usually begins at 8:00 pm, but by all means bring him earlier and let him meet our friendly group.

GERMANIA DAMENCHOR
Vera Motika, President
614/491-6832
Many of us had a great time in Youngstown on September 22, 2007 and are now focusing on our Christmas music. Our ladies’ next big venture is the International Festival at the Veterans Memorialon Saturday November 3 (from 10 am to 10 pm) and Sunday November 4, 2007 (from 11am to 6pm). We still need a lot of volunteers. This year’s theme is: “Peace thru Understanding”. Please mark your calendars and call me to volunteer or sign up at the Club. Sign-up sheets are available at the Club. We also look forward to our Singers Banquet on November 10, 2007 where we will perform together with the Männerchor.
Remember, the world looks and sounds better when you can have a song in your heart!

DEUTSCHER RADFAHRER VEREIN
By Stephen Schneider(614/253-4211)
The last cycling outing was Sunday the 7th of October and it was HOT! I had thought it would be a nice, cool October scamper down the pathways at ThreeCreeksPark – but no! Instead we were greeted with 90+° degrees of pure Ohio summertime humidity! Needless to say, we had all the regulars out and a few new ones as well. An old friend of mine, visiting from Florida, came to ride with us as well, while his wife and kids did family things in Cincinnati. After pumping up a few tires we were off on a light 15 mile trundle through one of Columbus’ newest Metro Parks. Everyone agreed that even with the heat the cool parts through the various woods we encountered made the overall ride very pleasant. Following the ride we all descended onto the Motika home for the largest potluck of the riding season. Vera outdid herself with her signature meatballs and “Wurst Salat”, danke! Unfortunately the beers evaporated quite quickly in the heat and it was difficult to pace oneself. Thankfully, Joe brought out the iced “Jägermeister” for a light Prosit moment or two. Thanks again to Joe and Vera for their hospitality following this last ride. This year was the largest turn out for each ride so far and I am looking forward to next season already!
I would like to thank all those who came out riding, walking or just joining in the fun with us this season. I would also like to especially thank all those who opened their homes and hunting lodges for our potlucks as well. Truly, the Deutscher Radfahrer Verein is a group that prides itself on Geműtlichkeit of the Germania at it’s finest and for all of you who ever wanted to join in the fun, get in shape this winter because spring is a mere 6 months away! Have a wonderful Holiday Season and remember to keep the “fun between your legs”.
Tschűß!
Stephen Schneider

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY
Saturday, December 15, 2007 (11 AM TO 1PM)
Last year Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus came to the Germania to visit the children. Mrs. Claus made sure Santa was looking his best, she helped us sing songs and of course, Santa brought something for each child. A lunch was provided and a wonderful time was had by all. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus have agreed to visit us again this year, so please save Saturday, December 15th for a family event: the GermaniaChildren’s Christmas Party. We will start at 11am and finish at 1pm. Cost at the door is $5.00 per person, that includes a light lunch of hotdogs and chips for the kids, brats, onions, sauerkraut and chips for the adults, a vegetable tray and cookies, and a small goodie bag for the children. Please call by December 6, 2007 with your reservations.
In addition, please leave your name and telephone number with Beth at 833-6498 or at the GermaniaforBeth at 461-8095 so she can call you back to inquire about names and ages of children so we can give Santa some idea of items he can bring and allow for some planning.
